The Aku Infection is based on mental illness
Aku; the term came from the Japanese term 'akuma' and correlated with the earlier Chinese word 'ku'.
WORD ORIGINS
CHINESE: ku means "black magic". Magic meant to hurt someone. Ku is also used to mean revenge. ... Pre-Han, it was used to mean 1. disease, 2. evil spirits 3. to cause doubt [mental illness], and 4. divination symbol. "Many early peoples have regarded disease as due to the possession of the body by an alien spirit" (The Book of Changes/I Ching). In Ku Yeh-Wang's Yu ti chih, "In several provinces[...] there are people who keep ku [worship]. The host uses it to kill people. Anyone who encounters it is killed." The practice of ku would span generations. When not talking about magic, poison is often referred to as a method of killing by ku. Ku often took the form of the various things we see Aku prefer: insects, frogs.
There is someone who believes that people wouldn't worship someone like Aku, not even the black mass. But there are cults in China that worshipped and practiced Black Magic. In Malaysia, a local cult called Mao Saan practiced it, evil. Black magic involves a human agent who voluntarily/deliberately instigates activities to harm others,. "The raising and use of demons...in a social history of demonic medicine in Chinese antiquity are rumored to be evident among [ku] adepts in Malaysia" (Black magic and illness in a Malaysian Chinese community). This is more than just poisoning. This is the worship of demons specifically to do evil, to make people sick mentally [when not using poison to make them sick physically]. There are many spirit mediums that are used by Chinese today to cure the mental illnesses that ku has caused.
JAPANESE: Akuma came from Buddhism, not Christianity, during Japan's Heian period, to refer to Mara [Mara was an evil presence that tried to stop Siddhartha from enlightenment. Mara had daughters as well who willingly tried to stop the Buddhist.]. They merged Buddhist and Shintoist beliefs. Japan used Akuma to refer to evil spirits with flaming eyes who cause misfortune and mental illness to those in its presence. (真昼の悪魔 上―うつの解剖学). It is a word that describes spirits that are intrinsically evil. That is, naturally born evil. "This is not necessarily the devil, as in Lucifer or Satan, but it is a term used for demons that are intrinsically evil. They are usually seen as inhabiting their own world or dimension. They enjoy pain and suffering and are typically motivated by the desire to create hell on earth." (Amparo Bertram, a fellow Japanese speaker).
In Buddhism, there is a lot of importance placed on the mental suffering of life (more so than physical). And how we seek to liberate ourselves from suffering. Considering that Buddhism started earliy Heian period, it was widespread by the Edo era that Jack came from. It is likely he was a Buddhist (one can see some of those practices throughout the show).
THE LOGIC BEHIND THE INFECTION BEING MENTAL ILLNESS
When the creators were drafting ideas for 'The Aku Infection', they specifically took the idea that the battle between Aku and Jack here was a mental battle, not a physical one.
Tumblr media
"The more evil he becomes" [which is a mental process] and "The more I think about it, the body of the show is him fighting himself." This is 100% mental when you combine that he could only defeat Aku through mental means. The monastery that Jack visited is also synonymous with monk monasteries that heal mental injuries [NOT physical ones].
Aku's essence did not devour Jack physically. If Aku’s essence actually physically harmed Jack, Jack would have been dead within ten minutes of either inhaling or ingesting it [based on the corrosive nature of the black goo on the Emperor’s sword]. His lungs would have been melted away or his stomach would have ruptured. Both are not survivable in Jack’s situation.
Let’s assume that the amount of black on him represents how much of his body would have been destroyed: Jack would have already been dead by the time the blackness spread to his hand. The black mass has spread enough that it permeated the skin, meaning it had to get through his blood lines, through his muscles, through his fat layers, through his bones [since blood does permeate the bones]… such a thick and corrosive material would clog your arteries and give you a heart attack, stroke, thrombosis, etc. There’s literally no way he could have survived beyond ten minutes or the first time we see his black hand, given the delicacy of the closed human system if Aku’s essence was trying to kill him physically. The tiniest blood clot can kill you.
Tumblr media
Samurai Jack has shown men with wounds in the past as well. If Jack were being harmed physically, we would have seen something.
If it were really killing Jack’s body, we wouldn’t see much of it left by the time Aku was purified from Jack. And, remember, the healing springs did nothing to Aku physically; it was only through mental fortitude [aka Jack defeating the mental illness that Aku incurred, as Akuma does] that caused Aku to leave. Not through any medicine given to him. Aku’s essence was not trying to hurt Jack physically, but mentally. There is more than enough evidence from the creators, the show itself, and my explanation of how susceptible the human body is to the smallest error to justify that conclusion.

Musing on A Philosophical Parallel Between the Nei-Yeh XVII and the Tao Te Ching 22 (Dao dejing)
Tumblr media
This is a fascinating concept of when a person remains in an empty state of being, one is whole. This chapter of the Dao dejing I think is an echo of this passage from the Nei-yeh XVII. The Nei-yeh tells us that we must coil and contract ourselves, then the opposite, to uncoil and to expand. Now looking at chapter 22 of the Laozi, we see “That which is twisted will remain whole, that which bends will become straight. That which is hollowed out like a melon will be filled to the brim.”  So, when we are told “to coil” in the Nei yeh, we become twisted, and inevitably we remain whole, or uncoiled. When we are told to contract, this is to be hollowed out, emptied. When the Nei yeh tells us to expand, this is when we are filled to the brim as sung in the Laozi.
Next, the Nei yeh tells us to “Chase away the excessive; abandon the trivial.” And the Dao dejing tells us, “The sage…does not make himself seen, and therefore is as bright as the sun and the moon; Does not consider himself good, and therefore is a pattern for all; Does not denigrate others to make himself look good, and therefore gets the credit; Does not make himself like the arrogant grip of a spear, and therefore becomes a staff of support.” The Dao dejing is, or so I’m naively claiming, is laying out for us how to “chase away the excessive; abandon the trivial” with these verses. Is it not trivial and excessive for one to always consider themselves “good?” Is it not excessive for one to cut others down to thus elevate their own perceived “goodness.” Absolutely it is. How trivial are the arrogant? Abandon and chase away arrogance and contention, pretentiousness, and fame, and, according to the Laozi, you will become supported or uncontended, you will be good, and you will be as luminous as the heavenly bodies.
Finally the Nei yeh finishes up by saying, “And when you reach its ultimate limit You will return to the Way.” The Dao dejing finishes up its chapter by concluding, “How could these be empty words? In truth, it will remain whole and will return to the Source.” The parallels here are too hard to ignore for my taste. Now according to my translation’s notes on the Dao dejing, this last bit is commonly agreed by scholars that it was accidentally inserted into the ending of the preceding verses. Whether this is true or not, doesn’t matter for the purpose of making a philosophical connection from the Nei yeh, which predates the Dao dejing composition, to the philosophy found within the Dao dejing. When it tells us that “when you reach its ultimate limit,” “remaining whole” is the ultimate limit. We do that by being twisted and coiled; in being coiled, we are thus whole and uncoiled. By being empty, or contracted, and by expanding, or being “filled to the brim.”  Once this ultimate limit is realized we return to the Dao. Other translations of chapter 22 render this last verse as such, “if you really have attained wholeness, all will flock to you.” This is much is true for both translations. Returning or aligning with the Dao, I so naively say, is achieving a sort of wholeness, which causes a natural flocking of everything good to the one who is able to do such a thing. This is a sentiment that is also sung in the Sayings of Master Zhuang. I will come back to this post at a later date and input the verses from the Zhuangzi that support this last conclusion I made.

@senatusstarters location: the FUNCTION notes: Ezekiel as Cardi B, Adamo as J Balvin, and Amico as Bad Bunny. Big shoutout to Eren, Eric, and Elijah as the backup dancers. Isla, Cloe, and Flora on backup vocals.
A backwards somersault off a set of satyr-made enchanted turntables brought Ezekiel to the front of the dance floor as the backup vocalists started in. "Yeah baby, I like it like that," Grin wide and bright, he pointed at Remi through the parting crowd as they funeral attendees made space for Lil' Nasty, Amico, Adamo, and their backup dancers. They made walking around in small circles and smiling look effortless.
"You gotta' believe me when I tell you," "I said I like it like that," "You gotta' believe me when I tell you,""I said I like it like."
Michael handed Lil' Nasty his microphone as the aspiring rapper and DJ started off, his love of everything fine and flashy coming across with his overwhelming self confidence. "Now I like dollars, I like diamonds, I like stunting, I like shining I like million dollar deals, where's my pen, bitch I'm signin' (Signin') I like those Balenciagas (Those), the ones that look like socks I like going to the jeweler, I put rocks all in my watch (Cha-ching) I like texts from my exes, when they want a second chance (What?) I like proving people wrong, I do what they say I can't (he can't)" "They call me Lil' Nasty, banging body, spicy papi, hot tamale Hotter than a Somali, fur coat, Ferrari Hop out the stu', jump in the coupe (Coupe) Big Dipper on top of the roof Flexing on bitches as hard as I can Eating halal, driving the Lam' Told that bitch I'm sorry (Sorry) 'Bout my coins like Mario (Mario) Yeah they call me Freak Nasty I run this shit like cardio"
"Oh, damn Diamond district in the jag (Gang, I said I like it like that) Certified, you know I'm gang, gang (Gang, gang I said I like it like) Drop the top and blow the brains, wouh (Wouh! I said I like it like that) Oh he's so handsome, what's his name? (Yeah, wouh, I said I like it) Oh I need the dollars, cha-ching (I said I like it like that) Beat it up like piñatas (I said I like it like) Tell the driver, close the curtains (I said I like it like that, skrt) Bad kid make him nervous (I said I like it)" Ciro tossed Amico his own microphone as Ezekiel and the demon high fived. Incapable of not showboating, the vampire started breakdancing in front of the backup dancers as Adamo pulled a money gun out of somewhere and started making it rain on him. "Chambean, chambean, pero no jalan (¡Jalan!) Tú compras to'a las Jordan, bo', a mí me las regalan (Hehe-he) I spend in the club (wouh), what you have in the bank (Yeah) This is the new religion, bang, en Latino gang, gang, yeah Trato de hacer dieta (Yeah), pero es que en el closet tengo mucha grasa (Wouh)"
"Diamond district in the jag (Gang, I said I like it like that)" "Bad Bunny baby, bebé, bebé, bebé"
Amico fell into the routine with the dancers, leading the number as the three men were clearly in their element. Ezekiel hadn't even broken a sweat. He was also a vampire so he didn't sweat but the important takeaway was that he was a performer.
"Certified, you know I'm gang, gang (Gang, gang I said I like it like) Drop the top and blow the brains, wouh (Wouh! I said I like it like that) Oh he's so handsome, what's his name? (Yeah, wouh, I said I like it) Oh I need the dollars, cha-ching (I said I like it like that) Beat it up like piñatas (I said I like it like)"
"Tell the driver, close the curtains (I said I like it like that, skrt) Bad kid make him nervous (I said I like it)
Udaeus tossed Adamo his microphone as Ezekiel did a standing full backflip, somersaulting into more elaborate breakdancing.
The three men sang in tandem as Amico stepped out of the head of the danceline to join the other two centre stage, Ezekiel in the middle of the two men unintentionally emphasising a height difference.
"I said I like it like that I said I like it like that (Rrr) I said I like it like that (Wouh) I said I like it like that Diamond district in the jag (Gang, I said I like it like that) Certified, you know I'm gang, gang (Gang, gang I said I like it like) Drop the top and blow the brains, wouh (I said I like it like that) Oh he's so handsome, what's his name? (I said I like it)"
The music faded as the dancers and backup vocalists dissipated into the crowd, Ezekiel ran a hand through his hair - the full face mask he’d been wearing was abandoned a long time ago along with the spiky jacket he’d had on. Ezekiel grabbed the first bottle of champagne he could find before he shook it, popped the lid and sprayed it over the crowd. “This party goes crazy!”

BLOG 18 24/6/2024
Today I was looking at Ching Yeh's artwork, his artwork, inspired me a lot, grotesque and bizarre with beauty revealed. He also likes to draw robots and it just so happens that my graduation is also a robot robot.
One of the best things I think he's created is "The World of AA" (2023) , and I feel like as "Scorn" (2022) has become more well-known, more and more artists are starting to do designs that combine biology and technology. His designs are absurdly beautiful and divine.
